About the Sector:
Manufacturing is a key contributor to economic development, creating jobs and increasing self-reliance. The National Manufacturing Policy envisions manufacturing contributing 25% to GDP and creating 100 million jobs.

Capital goods consist of plant machinery, equipment, and accessories required, either directly or indirectly, for the manufacture or production of goods or for rendering services. This includes items needed for replacement, modernization, technological upgrades, and the expansion of manufacturing facilities.

The main sub-sectors identified within the capital goods sector are:

| S. No | Sub Sectors                               | Brief Description                                                                                                                                                  |
|-------|-------------------------------------------|------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------|
| 1     | Machine Tools                             | Comprises machines related to metal cutting and forming.                                                                                                        |

LOGISTICS SECTOR

(Inventory Clerk)

Sector Overview – Logistics

About the Sector:
Logistics is considered the backbone of the economy, ensuring the efficient and cost-effective flow of goods essential for other commercial sectors. The logistics industry is rapidly evolving due to the interplay of infrastructure, technology, and new service providers, enabling it to help customers reduce costs and provide effective services.

The logistics industry continues to grow, fueled by the expansion of retail, e-commerce, and manufacturing sectors. It is expected to reach over USD 2 billion by 2019, with the rise of e-commerce logistics and increased domestic consumption driving future growth. The service-oriented logistics industry is poised for significant expansion in the latter half of this decade.

The main sub-sectors identified within the logistics sector are:

| S. No | Sub Sectors                                  | Brief Description                                                                                                                                                  |
|-------|----------------------------------------------|------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------|
| 1     | Warehousing - Storage and Packing            | Involves managing inbound materials, inventory keeping, and the distribution and dispatch of outbound materials. Tertiary packaging for transportation is integral. |
| 2     | Land Transportation                          | Focuses on cargo consolidation, transportation, and coordinating the transport network. The shortage of commercial vehicle drivers, particularly in heavy vehicles, is a key issue. |
| 3     | Carrier and Express Services                 | Handles time-critical and often high-value consignments; a significant portion involves document handling. This sub-sector has high employability, especially with e-commerce. |
| 4     | Port Terminals, ICDs, and CFS Operations    | With the emphasis on port infrastructure under various projects, both the speed and volume of cargo movement are expected to increase, requiring multi-skilled manpower. |
| 5     | Freight Forwarding and Custom Clearance      | Logistics professionals need to understand trade agreements and customs regulations. Freight forwarders operate in a dynamic environment influenced by global currency fluctuations. |
| 6     | Air Cargo Operations                         | Increased regional connectivity is expected to enhance time-sensitive and high-value cargo movement, with courier companies leveraging this for faster deliveries. |
| 7     | Perishable Goods Handling                    | Agricultural produce and other perishables require controlled environments during storage and transportation, necessitating modernization and training for operators. |

The logistics sector employed about 21.24 million people as of 2017, with 54% in passenger roadways, 35% in road freight, and the remainder in passenger railways, freight forwarding, warehousing, and packaging. According to the National Sample Survey, employee distribution is mainly in major cities like Mumbai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, and Ahmedabad, with emerging clusters in Bangalore, Surat, and Indore.

Infrastructure projects, including dedicated freight and industrial corridors, port terminal expansions, and Greenfield port projects, will create new employment opportunities.
